Wang, Guoping is a professor in the School of Computer Science, and has served as the Director of Graphics and Interactive Technology Lab since 2002 and the Director of Beijing Engineering Technology Center of Virtual Simulation and Visualization. He obtained his B.Sc. and Master Degree from Harbin Institute of Technology in 1987 and 1990, and Ph.D. from Fudan University in 1997 respectively. His research interests include Virtual Reality, Computer Graphics, Human-Computer Interaction, Multi-media.

Dr. Wang has published more than 170 research papers, including published in top-tier conferences and journals, such as SIGGRAPH, IEEE TBDE, CGF, and CAD. He is serving as a Professional Member of National Information Standard Committee (2011), is also in the ISO/IEC JTC1/SC24 International Organization for Standardization (2011). He has served as Vice director in Committees of CAD/Graphics and HCI of China Computer Federation (2015, 2013), as Vice president of the Council of China Society of Image and Graphics(2016) . He was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2009, and gained special allowance from the State Council in 2010.

Dr. Wang has taken charge of dozens of research projects including NSFC, 973 programs, 863 project, etc. and developed some software systems which have been widely used in many industries. These systems are as follows:

-   3D adaptive discrete modeling system PUM

-   Physics-based simulation engine Physika

-   Very large scale distributed virtual reality support platform ViWo

-   Image-based 3D reconstruction system i23D.
