Wang, Houfeng received his BS degree from Wuhan University in 1986, his MS from Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1989 and his PHD from Wuhan University in 1998, all in Computer Science. His research interest is Natural Language Processing, including Question Answering, Sentiment Analysis and Language Resources Construction.

Dr. WANG has published more than 70 research papers, and many of them are published in top-tier conferences and journals, such as ACL, IJCAI, AAAI, EMNLP and COLING and CL. He is the executive member of the Council of Chinese Information Processing Society of China.

Dr. WANG has about ten research projects including NSFC, 863 programs, and the National Social Science Foundation in China etc. His research achievements are summarized as follows:

1) Question Answering: Question Answering has attracted a lot of attention in the fields of Natural Language Processing and Information Retrieval. Dr. WANG's research contains spoken question understanding and answer retrieval. He and his team propose a joint model for intent recognition and semantic slots filling while understanding spoken question, and the model has been used in application system. They also put forward an attentive interactive neural networks for answer selection in community question Answering by modeling the paired segment relationship between a question sentence and the candidate answers.

2) Language Resources Construction: Language Resources play an important role on Natural Language Learning. Dr. WANG and his team propose multi-view treebanking annotation framework for Chinese and have constructed the Peking University Multi-view Chinese Treebank, which supports the Phrase Structure view, Dependency Structure view and Semantic Dependency views. This treebank has been applied in more than 20 institutes and companies.
