Jia, Huizhu is an associate professor in the School of Computer Science, Peking University. Before joining Peking University, he engaged in chip design in Grandview semiconductor Corp. and Spreadtrum communications Corp. He obtained his B.Sc. from Northeast Petroleum University, Daqing, China, in 2002, and Ph.D. from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, in 2008 respectively. His research interests include video data compression and analysis, image processing, ASIC design.

Dr. Jia has published more than 50 research papers, and most of them are published in Mainstream international conferences and journals, such as T-CSVT, T-MM and ISCAS. He has received more than 30 patents on Chinese inventions. He has more than ten research projects including NSFC, the National Key Technology Research and Development Program, 863 project, etc.

His research achievements are summarized as follows:

1)  China's first AVS high-definition video coding SoC chip: He presided over the development of China's first AVS high-definition video coding SoC chip, which has been mass production. It can real-time process one road high-definition video or four road standard-definition videos, and greatly reduce the cost of AVS encoder. It has been adopted by more than 80% AVS TV encoder manufacturers.

2)  Video encoding algorithm and chip architecture: For the requirements of video encoding high data throughput and high performance parallel computing, he systematically studied the architecture of video encoding chip. He proposed a computationally constrained multiresolution motion estimation algorithm and chip structure, and proposed a mode decision algorithm and chip pipeline structure based on RDO. They can reduce about 50% computing and greatly improve the system throughput of video encoding chip.
